COLUMBUS, OHIO — A home invasion ended in death when a woman who was at home shot the intruder on Monday morning.
William Evans, 23, broke in through back door of the house around 10 a.m. His family claims he was there to fight the man who lived there to defend the honor of the mother of his 2-year-old child. Evans' mother, Ivy Curtis, is quoted by Dispatch as saying: "The guy that lived in the house was talking bad about her. He went over to fight, and they shot my son. Now he is dead."
The woman who shot Evans several times called 911 to report the incident at 10:12 a.m. She was at home with an infant, and another man came home shortly after the shooting. She told police that said she had never seen Evans before and was acting in self-defense. There were two guns found in the house, only one of which the woman claimed was hers.
"She claims one of them for sure. I can tell you the other one is likely the intruder's [gun]," Sergeant David Sicilian of the Columbus Police Department told WCMH-TV Columbus.
Police are still looking for two men who were seen near the scene of crime in a gold or light-colored SUV.
