Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, 28, has been arrested two weeks after she gave birth to a baby on June 18. The baby is allegedly fathered by an unidentified teenaged student at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, Southern California.
Multiple reports say Whitehurst was the student’s adviser in the Compact Careers Club at school. The almost year-long relationship started last summer when the two began talking outside of school, which led to the then 16-year-old student eventually meeting Whitehurst at her home. He is now 17 years old. The students mother reportedly tipped off officials of the Redlands Unified School District about the relationship after her son told her about it.
Whitehurst was arrested two weeks after the birth of the baby for unlawful sex with a 16-year-old. She has has been released from jail after posting $25,000 bond and is currently on administrative leave from Citrus Valley High School. She is the third teacher in the Inland Empire region of Southern California that has been accused of a sexual relationship with a student in the past year. Police have also spoken to other possible victims of the teacher, although an investigation is still ongoing.
