Pilot hospitalized after smuggled balloons of cocaine burst in his stomach

A commercial airline pilot has been hospitalized and charged with drug offences after one of 62 bags of cocaine he had swallowed burst during a flight from Colombia to Houston.

Stanley Rafael Hill, 49-year-old commercial airline pilot, was traveling as a passenger on the Sunday flight.

He began to feel ill after one of the bags of cocaine burst in his stomach during the flight.

Hill checked into a nearby hotel after the flight landed at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and then called for medical assistance. He was taken to Northeast Medical Center Hospital.

He has been charged with felony possession of drugs with intent to deliver. His bond has been set at $500,000.

It is not clear which airline Hill was flying, or which carrier he works for. Reports said he is licensed to fly Boeing 737s.
