Security camera footage from a liquor store captures the incredible moment a giant, razor-sharp circular blade escaped its hinges and sliced into a woman, putting her in hospital on Tuesday morning.
It began at the intersection of 9th Avenue and West 48th street in Manhattan. workmen with a circular saw were cutting into the asphalt to access a water main.
It was peak-hour and 9th Avenue was filled with people headed to work.
Exactly happened next is under investigation, but the 3-foot wheel of steel came loose and shot into the pedestrians at high speed. Those at the scene described a scene from a horror movie; the blade arcing through the air, bouncing off the concrete and a low fence as it headed toward the helpless meat sacks at 50 miles per hour.
It travelled roughly 100 feet before striking a 43-year-old woman in the leg and lower body.
She was rushed to Bellevue hospital for treatment and will survive.
