Weightlifting Explainer - 2017 Summer Universiade
Weightlifting consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. Each weightlifter receives three attempts in each.
These two lifts occur after a split or squat start. The snatch consists of lifting the barbell over the head in one single movement, while the clean and jerk consists of lifting the barbell on the shoulders and then raising the barbell above the head. Once the barbell is lifted and the weightlifters’ legs are straight, they must hold the bar steady and remain motionless until the judges determine if the lift was successful or not.
Lifters have 1 minute for each attempt. If successful, 1 kg is added to the barbell weight for the next lift. The total of the highest two successful lifts determines the overall result. If there is a tie; the first lifter with the first successful attempt is the winner!
