US gets tough on Iran, deploys carriers and bombers to MENA
The US has sent its USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the region.
TEHRAN, IRAN — US National Security Advisor John Bolton says the US has sent an aircraft carrier to the Middle East as a warning to Iran, according to the BBC.
The US is deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the region, Reuters reports.
The carrier strike group consists of the Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier, the USS leyte Gulf, a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, US Navy Carrier Air Wing Seven, and destroyer vessels from Destroyer Squadron Two, NBC News reports.
According to NPR, the task force would also consist of land-based bombers.
Citing an unidentified US official, CNN reports that threats were made against US maritime and ground based forces in the Middle East.
Reuters cites Bolton as saying that any attack on US interests or US allies will be met with quote "unrelenting force."
