Terrorist dressed as Santa Claus kills 35 New Year's revelers at nightclub in Turkey
Russian media report that ISIS has claimed responsibility for the New Year’s Day massacre.
ISTANBUL, TURKEY — A gunman believed to be dressed as Santa Claus opened fired on a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey, killing at least 39 New Year’s revelers and wounding dozens more.
The city’s governor described the mass shooting as a terror attack. At this time, it’s not clear how many gunmen participated in the attack.
Video footage shows a gunman approaching the entrance to Reina, an outdoor nightclub, and shooting several people. Other video shows the gunman apparently shedding his clothes at the scene.
Many of the victims were foreigners. Some clubgoers jumped into the Bosphorous river to escape the attack.
The gunman, pictured here, removed his Santa Claus costume before fleeing the scene.
At least 39 were killed and more than 40 wounded in what the provincial governor described as a terrorist attack.
