NSFW    BEAR, DELAWARE — A man suspected of earlier killing a Delaware state trooper was shot dead by police on Thursday morning, bringing an end to an overnight standoff.

Suspect Burgon Sealy, 26, was wanted in connection with the death of Delaware State Police Cpl. Stephen Ballard.

Ballard, 32, was investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store in Bear, Delaware on Wednesday morning. Sealy, one of two occupants of the car, allegedly got out of the vehicle and opened fire at Ballard. Ballard was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The gunman fled the scene on foot and later barricaded himself inside his home, ABC News reported.

Sealy refused to surrender and continued to fire at police when officers surrounded the house. Police used an explosive breaching charge on the front door of the house but officers did not enter the residence.

The suspect exited the house on Thursday morning and engaged in a gunfight with police. Sealy was shot and killed by officers in the exchange of gunfire.

The investigation into the fatal shootings is ongoing.
