Solar expressway gets road-tested in China
How much it cost is unknown, but the company that made it said it cost half of similar projects in foreign countries.
JINAN, CHINA — The People's Republic of China is testing a 1-km solar expressway in Jinan.
Solar panels covering 5,875 square feet were laid on the expressway, reported Chinese state media outlet Xinhua News.
According to Inhabitat, the expressway consists of three parts: insulation on the bottom, the solar panel in the middle and weight-bearing transparent concrete on the top.
Xinhua reports that the road can generate enough power for 800 homes.
