SHANGHAI — Footage from a sex tape shot in a swanky hotel showing the Shanghai city skyline has gone viral in China, much to the ire of Chinese officials. Pornography is illegal in the People’s Republic.

As far as viral Chinese sex tapes go, this one is very docile when compared to last year’s explicit Uniqlo dressing room slobberknocker.

The video was posted to Chinese social media site Weibo on Tuesday and it didn’t take long for cybersleuths to piece together where it was filmed and who may have been in it. Netizens believe the video was shot by a cheating couple in Shanghai’s swanky Four Seasons Hotel.

Chinese authorities caught wind of the tape on Wednesday and reportedly raided the hotel on the same day. Around the same time, Weibo began purging the file from its servers, but that didn’t stop it going by viral via other means. The clip was shared throughout WeChat — a Chinese messaging app with more than 700 million users.

Weibo provided details of the original poster to authorities, the Los Angeles Times reported.
