The giant rubber duck docked in Keelung Harbor in Taiwan exploded on the last day of 2013. It was the second duck to meet an unnatural death in Taiwanese waters--another duck popped last month while on exhibit in the northern city of Taoyuan.
A video showing the enormous bath toy’s head bursting went viral, much to the amusement of international audiences, and the embarrassment of Taiwanese netizens. Some took the incident as a sign of bad luck for the coming year, while others just found it funny.
The popping was featured in several year-end round-ups by international media organizations, including The Huffington Post, CNN, the Telegraph, and the Metro.
