New Pope: Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis I, is the new Pope. Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina's election as the new Pope was announced at 8pm on March 13, 2013.
Shortly after 7pm white smoke was seen billowing from the Sistine Chapel's chimney at the Vatican. Crowds were surprised to find out that the college of cardinals had chosen Jorge Bergoglio to be the new Pope. This isn't Jorge Bergoglio's first time participating in the papal conclave, and rumor has it he nearly beat out Benedict for the title in 2005.
Thanks to the in depth research of journalists around the world (aka scanning Wikipedia) we know that Bergoglio is Argentinian, respects gays and lesbians as individuals, but does not support gay marriage. The new Pope is also against abortion and euthanasia.
He has broken all sorts of records by becoming the first Jesuit pope, the first pope from the Americas and the first pontiff from the New World. Pope Frances I is known for living a frugal life and his focus on poverty.
