What the Foul?
NEW YORK — The New York Mets stopped a two-game slide against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, in large part due to pitcher Bartolo Colon. The only difference however, was that Colon did it on the offensive side with an RBI double.
With the game tied 1-1 and a runner on second, Colon stepped up to the plate in the second inning. After two attempts to bunt on the fourth pitch with an 0-2 count, Colon smashed a David Phelps slider over the drawn-in Marlins outfield, bringing in Anthony Recker from second and giving New York a 2-1 lead.
Colon pulled up at second, but who knows, maybe he could have stretched it out into a triple. That run was the difference in the game as the Mets came out on top 4-3.
The New York Post had a pretty good back cover to commemorate Colon's memorable performance with the headline: DOUBLE EXCEL.
This was Colon's third hit of the season, his first extra-base hit of the season and his second extra-base hit of his career.
