A 23-year-old and his girlfriend were headed home in Sydney’s Central Business District at 2:45 a.m. when a group of six men began to follow them. One of the men called out “nice arse” which led to a large brawl. The brawl resulted in one casualty: the right, middle finger tip of the man who was protecting his girlfriend.
According to authorities, the 23-year-old turned around to confront the men when he was punched in the head and then kicked in the ribs. As he was kneeling over the gutter, the men continued to attack him. During the brawl, his middle finger was bitten with “extreme force” and part of the tip and nail were completely removed.
During the ordeal, the man’s girlfriend tried to stop the aggressors. Someone even stopped their car in an attempt to break up the fight.
Police on patrol were able to apprehend three of the men, while the others fled the scene. According to the Sydney Morning Herald; Noi Machal, 18, was charged for biting the man’s finger tip off; Subir El Haj, 20, was charged with assault and affray; Peter Santino was charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm while in company.
