Man handcuffs himself in dog cage wearing only his underwear, has to call police for help
Zeng cuffed himself inside a dog cage for four hours and stayed like that until he managed to use his nose to dial the emergency number on his smartphone.
The man, surnamed Zeng, sent a distress call to the police in Taitung, Taiwan, saying that he had handcuffed himself inside a dog cage wearing only his underwear for roughly four hours and could not get out. Zeng had lost all feeling in his limbs from staying in the same position for a prolonged period of time.
Zeng cuffed himself inside the cage at around 1 o’clock and stayed like that until he managed to use his nose to dial the emergency number on his smartphone. After police took apart the dog cage to allow the man to get out, he admitted that he had done this to himself.
Police found the key to the handcuffs. The man’s wrists were clearly red and swollen from struggling.
The police interviewed the man’s uncle, who told them that this was the first time he had done this. Before then, Zeng would often cut himself.
Authorities were worried that the man had the tendency to self-harm, so, after sending him to the hospital, they contacted his immediate family to find out more.
A psychiatrist from Taitung Hospital expressed his concern that Zeng might have been suffering from a stress-related illness, that he may have been on drugs or that the incident may be related to a mental illness.
