As a Florida family drove north along the Suncoast Parkway, the couple’s daughter — upset about being put her car seat — somehow managed to wrap the her mom’s seat belt around the woman’s neck.
Dad’s attempt to free Mom only made matters worse, tightening the seat belt up and causing it to lock.
"He's pulling on it, but this thing would not give. I was panicking, and it kept getting tighter…. It just got so bad. I blacked out at that point," the the mother told WTSP.
Cars whizzed by the father as he attempted to flag down other drivers for help. He finally caught the attention of Highway Patrolman Brad Wagner.
Wagner acted quickly to free the woman from the life-saving device. Using a knife, the trooper cut through the seat belt which allowed the mother to catch her breath.
Wagner’s record shows he performed CPR on a crash victim in September to save that person’s life.
