In this video taken outside the Stir Ups bar after closing time, last Saturday morning, in Green Bay Wisconsin, Officer Derek Wicklund can be seen throttling Joshua Wenzel and then arresting him. Debate over whether Officer Wicklund’s actions were justified has caused the video to go viral online.
It was closing time on South Washington Street and drunken crowds were accumulating as the bars cleared out. Two people were quickly arrested for open containers of alcohol.
Officers were in the process of arresting Wenzel’s friend for open container, and Wenzel can be heard on camera demanding to know what his friend did, then Officer Wicklund pushes him away.
Then Wenzel begins shouting obscenities at the officer, and Wicklund throttles him onto the hood of a cruiser. Wenzel is arrested while his friend captured the scene on video.
Wenzel got tickets for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He later told Fox 11 that he wasn’t hurt. A misdemeanor citation for resisting arrest in Wisconsin could mean anything from a fine to a year in jail, depending how the judge sees it.
