Google Street View backpack makes first appearance in Taiwan
Google's Street View backpack named the Trekker is now available in Taiwan. Google is making this backpack available for any "tourism board, non-profit, university, research organization or other third party" to borrow this spherical camera and capture sceneries of remote, hard-to-reach places around Taiwan.
The Google Trekker backpack is a compact version of the same technology used in Google's Street View cars. It weighs 18 kilograms and snaps pictures through 15 lenses atop angled, in all direction. As the operator walks, photos are taken roughly every 2.5 seconds.
