German police are stepping up the search for thieves targeting railway ticket machines across the country.
The thieves obtain cash from the machines by taping up all the openings before filling it with gas and igniting it.
The explosion blows open the machine exposing the cash inside, which the the thieves then make off with.
Around 75 ticket machines have been blown up around Germany in the last few months, with Wednesday’s attack on a machine at Hesse train station.
It was the 25th machine in the Frankfurt region this year to have been damaged in this way.
Each robbery nets the thief just a few hundred Euros, but causes 20,000 to 30,000 Euros in damage.
The German rail authority Deutsche Bahn has begun installing CCTV cameras in a bid to catch the culprits
