Friend of Boston bomber killed by police during questioning
A Chechen immigrant to the US was shot dead in Florida after he turned violent while being questioned about his ties to one of the Boston bombing suspects and the 2011 murder of three men in Waltham, Massachusetts.
According to reports, Ibragim Todashev, a 27-year-old mixed martial arts fighter, was in his Orlando apartment near Universal Studios, when an FBI agent and two Massachusetts state troopers knocked on his door early Wednesday morning.
Khusen Taramov, a friend of Todashev, said he met FBI agents on Tuesday night outside the apartment complex where his friend was killed, but was told by the FBI to leave shortly before the shooting happened, Reuters reported.
The FBI agent questioned Todashev about the 2011 murder of three men who, as reported by NBC News, were found in a Waltham apartment with their throats cut and marijuana strewn around the scene and over their bodies.
The agent handed Todashev a statement to sign that would have implicated him and the Boston bombing suspects in the slaying.
He suddenly turned violent, grabbed a knife and wounded the agent, who in response shot him dead.
The agent was transported to hospital but his unspecified wound was not life threatening and was closed with stitches.
According to NBC News, the FBI initially said the agent fired the fatal shot, but later in the day the bureau left open the question of who was responsible.
