Culinary teacher jailed for makin' bacon with teen boy
Former high school teacher Tara Stumph will be serving 90 days in jail after being in an affair with her much younger student from September 2014 to December 2015.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA — A former California high school teacher will be spending a measly three months in jail after pleading no contest to a felony charge of intercourse with a person younger than 18 years of age.
Originally sentenced to 180 days in prison, the former culinary arts instructor is only expected to serve half that time under California state law, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Tara Stumph’s relationship with her 16-year-old charge began in 2014. A lawsuit that the boy’s parents filed against her alleges that she gained the boy’s trust by encouraging him to confide in her. Then, she allegedly took advantage of him.
The married 36-year-old reportedly physically engaged the student both during and after class and even sent him photos and videos of her private areas.
Stumph and her student carried on with their activity for well over a year, until the school caught them in December 2015.
Once she completes her brief stint in the slammer, Stumph is set to face four years of supervised probation. She’s not supposed to go anywhere near any middle schools, high schools, or minors.
