A crippled man distributing flyers on the roadside in the Hsinchuang district of New Taipei City on Aug 1 was killed in a truck accident. He was about to return to the road divider when the traffic light turned green. An oncoming truck driver did not see the old man and ran him over.
The 55-year-old victim was declared dead after being sent to the hospital. He suffered from bone fractures and internal bleeding. Though he was sober, the 40-year-old truck driver faces charges of death caused by professional negligence.
The accident was caught on a dashcam. The government needs to step up safety along roadways as people handing out flyers are a common place throughout the country.
