A 38-year-old track worker at the Canadian Grand Prix was killed on Sunday evening when he was accidentally run over by a mobile crane close to the end of the race.
The worker was one of two men escorting the crane that was hoisting a Sauber car that had hit the wall at Turn 2. The recovery vehicle was returning to the pits when the worker dropped his radio and stumbled as he tried to pick it up. The crane operator didn’t see the worker fall and continued driving. The worker was hit and run over by the recovery vehicle. The worker was transported by helicopter to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
