A black bear in Northern California ate most of a man who was likely already dead from a heart attack, officials said Friday.
Humboldt County Deputy Coroner Roy Horton said 65-year-old Marion Williams died outside of his trailer located in a remote area before a wild black bear stumbled upon him.
Officials found some of his remains last Monday after friends reported him missing for five days.
An investigation showed no signs that the bear attacked or killed Williams. Officials think the bear discovered Williams’ body and dragged it to a nearby den.
The coroner said, “it looks like he collapsed and died.” “The bear comes along and sees a potential food source.”
