Massive Landslide Creates Lake That Could Cause Floods

NSFW    HUBEI, CHINA ??A gargantuan landslide in China's Hubei province has been photographed after it formed a lake as the loose earth created a barrier around a river.

According to a report via Xinhua Net, the 10 million cubic meter landslide effectively blocked the Qingjiang River, a branch of the Yangtze at around 5:30 a.m. on July 21; creating a lake that could at any moment cascade if the walls of the landslide give way, leading to further flooding.

At 10:15 a.m., the water from the upper reach broke through the top of the lake, discharging into the lower reach at a speed of 200 cubic meters per second.

In anticipation of a break in the mud wall, a total of 8,397 residents of 1,963 households from the downstream city of Enshi were evacuated by 3.p.m.

As of today, the naturally formed dam has not broken with river water currently flowing over the top.
