Fifteen people were killed and 31 injured after a bus with Romanian license plates crashed in a deep river gorge in central Montenegro on Sunday. According to Reuters, the bus was travelling on a road connecting Montenegro’s capital Podgorica to the country’s north and had 46 passengers aboard. The vehicle was about 50 km north of the capital when it swerved off a bridge and fell onto a rocky outcrop in a gorge along the Moraca River.
It was found lying on its side on an outcrop about 30 metres into the gorge. Police and rescue teams arrived at the scene to extricate the dead and injured from the wreckage. According to Reuters, despite the small Balkan nation’s investments in infrastructure over the past decade, traffic accidents remain a frequent occurrence.
