NEW YORK — A New York City traffic cop was busted for trying to kick out her tenants just so she could unleash her inner party animal and dance the night away.
The New York Daily News reports that Jonathan Fortuna and his family were at home Monday night when their landlady, 31-year-old Shanna Hamilton, barged into the rented apartment — which Fortuna claims was an illegal sublet — with her relatives in tow.
Hamilton tried to evict her renters, changing the locks and proceeding to party inside. The family stayed put — even when Hamilton's father tossed a lit cigarette at Fortuna, threatening to throw him off the balcony.
Police arrived at the Beach 98th Street residence after Fortuna called 911. But Hamilton played the victim, insisting to officers that she was the rightful resident. After the officers believed her and left, the landlady cranked up the music and continued to party.
The shindig was still in full swing when police officers returned to the apartment a few hours later and realized they'd been fooled. Hamilton was arrested and charged with unlawful eviction and harassment, according to the New York Post.
Fortuna claims his landlady had been harassing him for weeks, after the two clashed in October over rent.
